What to track on a GLP-1 (it isn't calories)
Most fitness tracking was designed around one job: catching people eating more than they think. A GLP-1 makes that job nearly obsolete — and leaves the metrics that actually matter untracked.
The five numbers that matter now
- Protein per day. The headline act, for reasons covered here. If you track one thing, track this.
- Resistance sessions per week. A simple count, honestly kept. Two is the floor; the plan makes it realistic.
- Strength on two or three anchor lifts. Holding your goblet squat or press while two stone lighter is the clearest evidence the loss is fat, not muscle.
- The 30-day weight trend — never the daily reading. Daily numbers are water theatre; the trend is the truth, and it is the line to set a target against.
- Waist, monthly, plus a photo. Composition change the scale cannot see. Same tape position, same lighting, once a month.
The metrics to demote
- Calories eaten — the medication has this covered; obsessing over an already-suppressed number pushes people toward eating too little to keep muscle.
- Calories burned by exercise — watch estimates are folklore, and training-to-burn is the wrong frame anyway. Train to keep muscle; the deficit is handled.
- Daily scale weight in isolation — useful as an input to a trend, corrosive as a daily verdict.
Why the framing matters
Track the wrong things and a good week looks like failure: protein hit, sessions done, strength held — but the scale flat, so morale collapses. Track the right things and a stalled scale week can be correctly read as a win. Measurement is motivation infrastructure.
Built in, not bolted on
This is Motivaite's native scoreboard on GLP-1 mode: protein and sessions on the dashboard, strength and PBs logged per lift, the weight chart drawn as a trend against your target in stone or kilos, and monthly progress photos prompted on schedule. The Coach reads the same board you do — which is why it congratulates the right weeks. Free for 30 days.
ENOUGH READING.
