The best AI fitness apps in the UK, 2026 — an opinionated guide
The disclosure that most roundups bury: we make Motivaite, one of the apps below. We've kept the descriptions of everyone else fair and the criteria visible, so you can disagree with our weighting and still find the right app.
The categories that actually exist
“AI fitness app” covers four different products wearing one label. Decide which job you're hiring for first.
1. AI workout generators
The strong name: Fitbod — and it is genuinely clever. It builds resistance sessions around your equipment, tracks what you lifted, and rotates muscle groups by recovery. If your only gap is “what should I do in the gym today?”, it answers it well. What it doesn't do is food, accountability, or care whether you showed up.
2. AI-flavoured bodyweight coaching
The strong name: Freeletics — a polished, established European app whose “Coach” adapts bodyweight and HIIT plans to your feedback. Excellent if equipment-free intensity is your thing. Nutrition and day-to-day accountability sit further from its core.
3. Trackers that added an AI layer
The strong name: MyFitnessPal, whose database plus newer AI-assisted logging makes it the measuring instrument of the category — our full comparison is here. Diaries record; they still mostly don't coach.
4. AI coaches
Apps where the AI plans, watches and answers back daily — the category [Motivaite](/) sits in, alongside a wave of thin “chatbot with a fitness prompt” apps. The test that separates the two: does the AI hold your data and your plan, or just chat? A real coach knows Tuesday's protein and last month's squat before it opens its mouth.
What we built ours to win at
Motivaite's bet is that most people's bottleneck is neither workouts nor logging — it's follow-through. So: plans built from your kit, UK supermarket meal plans with the shopping list attached, 7am orders, a blunt weekly reckoning, and — uniquely in this list — a proper GLP-1 mode and a mode where your human PT sets the rules. £12.99/month, first 30 days free.
The straight recommendations
- Just gym programming: Fitbod.
- Bodyweight intensity, no kit: Freeletics.
- A meticulous free food ledger: MyFitnessPal.
- A coach for the whole thing — plan, food, accountability: ours, and we'd say that, so take the free month and make us prove it.
