Progress photos done properly: four angles, date stamps, no lying

The scale is a liar in the short term. Water, salt, sleep and hormones swing it daily, which is why a stalled fortnight ends so many honest attempts. Photos don't have those moods — but only if they're taken properly.

The system

Motivaite's progress section takes a set of four photos: front, left, right, back. Same poses, every time, so week 1 and week 12 are actually comparable. Each photo gets the date burned into the image itself before it's stored — not metadata that gets lost, pixels on the picture. When you're four months in, there's no arguing with a photo that says 17 JUL 2026 in the corner.

Why four angles

Front-only photos hide half the story. Backs change first for a lot of people; obliques tell you things the mirror face-on never will. Four angles, taken in the same order, make the comparison honest.

The rules

  • Same time of day — mornings, before food, are most consistent.
  • Same place, same light. Different lighting can fake a transformation or hide a real one.
  • Every two to four weeks. Weekly photos show noise; monthly photos show change.

Privacy, since you're wondering

Your photos are yours: stored privately against your account, viewable and deletable by you, never used anywhere else. Delete a photo or a whole set at any time.

Pair the photos with the weight graph (in stone or kilograms — your choice) and the weekly check-ins, and you get the thing the bathroom mirror can never give you: evidence with a date on it.
